A wrongful death case is a type of personal injury claim in which the person accused of causing the death is held responsible for the loss of financial support and love that he or she has caused the family members of the victim. The surviving family members of the victim may seek monetary compensation from the defendant to reimburse for fatality related expenses, such as funeral costs and the loss of love, advice, and support from the deceased. A wrongful death claim may be made against any type of negligent party including hospitals, doctors, manufacturers of defective products, property owners, or anyone else whose actions contributed to the death.
